Which way round?
-
For those of you that have seen a hedgehog circling another – which way round does it go and more to the point is it always the same?
It struck me looking at a few recent videos that the bullying male who has seen off a couple of rivals always circles the female anti-clockwise.
It made me wonder if hedgehogs favour a particular foot and if it influences which way they go.
A lot of animals are right/left footed just like us and will favour one side, but it could be more to do with the way the female circles
I’ve just spent one and a half hours watching a male circling a female on my paving – he must be exhausted and she wasn’t able to get to the food dishes in all that time so I’ve left them to it now. I’d no idea it could be so persistent. Maybe an ambidextrous male as he frequently altered his circling from clockwise to anticlockwise. ! First time I’ve ever seen it and most of it involved him clumsily walking through the food and water dishes except when the female got herself next to a very large plant pot so he adapted more of a U-shaped semi-circling. Sorry not to be more help.
