Hi I have been feeding hedgehogs in my garden regularly for many years. I currently have around 10 that visit every night. The majority of them are boars with only a couple of sows who have suddenly disappeared. Could they be off somewhere giving birth?
There’s been lots of courting all year but no signs of any hoglets which is strange.

    Hi Leekay62

Yes, it’s possible the females are off somewhere giving birth. But it isn’t reallly strange that there have been signs of courtship but no hoglets. There is no certainty that courtship will lead to hoglets and even if some are born, there is a high mortality rate. Then if hoglets are produced, Mother hog may take them, when they first venture out, to somewhere else in her range, especially if she knows several males tend to visit your garden. But hopefully some will eventually turn up. Fingers crossed!

    Good luck.
