Hi Nic,
It might also be worth mentioning the new Mammal Society survey which Laurence has highlighted on another post. This survey was commissioned by the governments own agency Natural England and alarmingly estimates that hedgehog numbers are now down to around 522,000, that’s 66% lower than a previous review in 1995 and almost half the current 1 million estimate which has caused so much concern.

Hi Penny
I hope you saw my entries on the other strand. My MP ignored mention of the EDM completely and just sent the standard reply – i.e. it is against the law to trap hedgehogs, etc. They seem to be burying their heads in the sand about this trap and so mentioning figures, etc. seems to go over their heads. It seems the only way is to persevere and I just hope enough people will try that. Meanwhile there is another trap just been licensed for grey squirrels and rats, due on the market later in the year. Not sure whether this could impact hogs in any way.
Hi Nic,
If you mean the new A18 grey squirrel trap, it looks almost identicle to the A24 and how on earth is it going to differentiate between grey and red squirrels…absolute madness!!! 🙁
It seems a bit of an unequal struggle, doesn’t it. Up against big commercial business.
