Minimum size golf hedgehog house.

They probably like to keep us guessing! But some of the hogs here also like foraging on the grass. They seem to prefer it not to short but not too long – although probably with longer areas, where insects can live.
Could someone advise the minimum height house a hedgehog might use? I have some lovely half inch pallet wood but it is 19.5cms wide (7.75”) and it will be an awful faff for me to join two pieces, heightwise.
Wondering if it’s worth a try?
Its nearing Hibernation season so I’m ready to buy two homes, one as a replacement as I didn’t realise just how run down my old home-made one was (for GCSE few years back) and another else where in the gadren.
Hopefully increasing my change of having one staying.
