long or round hedgehogs
-
I have uploaded two clips from last night on youtube search for “steve konarski” – the first has a longish body and showing about 1″ of tail – the second has a roundish body and showing no tail – is this quite usual to have a variety of body shapes – is one mail and one female etc
Hi Stedwomas
You’ll find that hedgehogs are quite good at changing shape, depending on what they’re doing. So that one can look quite round one time and quite long another. Likewise showing tail or not can vary. So sorry, not quite that easy telling male from female. Their spine area is fairly flexible and the various muscles in the skin underneath are able to move that area quite a bit – notably when they roll up. But they are also able to flatten (and lenghthen) their bodies quite a bit if they need to get underneath something, or seemingly make themselves narrower to squeeze through surpringly small gaps.
