How quickly do hoglets gain weight?
-
Hi All
At the beginning of this month I had two young hoglets visiting. As much smaller than the regulars I did weigh them, but a decent 350g.
Not seeing much of the regulars lately but I think it is these 2 who are still visiting to eat, drink, and seem more bulky than a few weeks ago. So am I mistaken? How much weight can hoglets put on in 2/3 weeks, anyone have any idea?
I feel they are a more decent size now – small, and obviously still not hibernating – should I weigh them or just keep feeding and stop worrying?
Hi daffydill
They could have put on enough weight by now. If they are coming regularly each night for food and water, I would be inclined to let them be, but if you are worried it wouldn’t hurt to weigh them again. Otherwise just keep providing the food and water in case they decide not to hibernate.
Hi Nic, and thank you for the advice. They arrive more or less together each evening to eat and drink which makes me wonder if they are bedding down together. I just wasn’t sure if they could have managed a decent weight gain in a few weeks but you have reassured me.
They are moving well, no apparent problems so I’ll leave them be but will make sure there is food and water all winter.
