How much should I feed?
-
I know that what we give is supplementary to whatever the hoggies find to eat in our gardens – not that they are dong a very good job with my slugs at the moment!- but how much do you put down each night. I have been putting down a handful of biscuit or half a small tray of cat food plus some biscuit – generally enough to fill one of the square green feeding dishes sold by ‘specialist’ stores. If I check before I go to bed and it’s all gone I top it up but probably with less. But I notice from the Camera that the hoggies are coming back time after time – maybe not always the same one obviously – but right up until it starts to gets light – round about 4.30 – when the bowls are already empty! Am I feeding enough/too much/ too little. Should I set up another feeding station somewhere else in the garden? Any suggestions welcome!
Hi DwarfHog
Someone asked a similar question on Champions chat recently – here is the link:

Re. the slugs – I think it is only the small ones they eat, but apparently those are the ones that cause most damage in the garden, so that’s good.
Thank you – very useful. It seems that my mini hog is coming early – any time after 8.30 – so He/she is getting first dibs on the food. There was still a lot left after he/she moved on and it’s all gone this morning. Annoyingly my new trail camera has stopped working after a fabulous night on Sunday when I had loads of pics and several videos! Hey ho!
I find my cams seem to mostly go wrong just when there is a lot of interesting activity going on! Sometimes they just don’t record, or other times – like last night – one of them just records non-stop whether anything is there or not until the batteries run out. Equally annoying as it take so long to look through them all and usually the batteries run out half way through the night. Can’t win!
