Last night our visiting hedgehog who’s been visiting every night for about 3 weeks was startled by a security light which isn’t usually in use. He scuttled off to the bushes and did not return to eat his food. Do you think he’s likely to return tonight or might he have been put off the area for a while/for good? The light is now switched off!

    Hi thepodd

Don’t worry, I anticipate the hedgehog will be back – especially if he knows there is a good source of food! Many of them don’t like lights which suddenly go on, but don’t seem to mind if lights are already on when they arrive and stay on for a longer period of time. But, they vary a bit and some will become used to security on/off lights.

If there is one hedgehog around, there are likely to be others, so you might end up with more than one visiting – once the message gets round!

    Good luck. Keep us posted.

    Happy hog watching.

Thank you. He didn’t return last night but I’ll keep leaving food out. Fairly sure it’s just the one same hedgehog as they have a distinctive lighter patch on their back but I’d love to have more prickly visitors!
