Hedgehog house housing rats
-
So we had a hedgehog house before next to our birdfeeder and we ended up housing rats instead of a hedgehog! We no longer put food for the birds on the ground but they still managed to get their birdseed all over the place! We have an old Guinea pig run we were thinking could make a good hedgehog house but are concerned about rats again. Has anyone else had this trouble?
Hi NorfolkHedgehog
Yes, I’m afraid rats are a bit of a perennial problem. Usually attracted by what the birds drop, but once they find the hog food, will tuck into that as well.
The following topic contains a list of other topics where rats have been discussed https://www.hedgehogstreet.org/forums/topic/rat-probelm/
Hope you find something useful in those.
I also feed birds and protect the feeders with a squirrel cage
Last week I thought oh goodness there is a squirrel stuck inside the cage… I ran down the garden SHRIEK it was a rat ! It must have climbed the tree and somehow got into the feeder…
Guess he was hungry just animals after all but dont like them in the feeders…. lol
