    Hello,
While I was clearing the side area of my house yesterday, I picked up an old dustsheet and curled up underneath was a mum and at least one hoglet. She curled up into a ball and I looked briefly at her but could see no sign of injury on her or her hoglet.
I was devastated to think I’d frightened her and destroyed her resting place/nest.
I put food and water out- Cat food and meal worms – came out this morning and everything has been eaten and she and the hoglet have gone.
Can anyone tell me if this was likely to have just been a resting place on a warm afternoon or would she have been living there- in which case I feel terrible that I’ve disturbed her.
    Thank you for any help.

    Hi EmilyB

Don’t beat yourself up too much. Sometimes hogs turn up where they’re least expected and we can’t always help disturbing them by mistake.

It’s hard to say, from a brief description whether it was an actual nest or not. It could also have been a daytime resting place.

Not sure how big the hoglet was but If it was very small, I might have been inclined to get them checked by a hog rescue carer, just in case Mum decided to reject the hoglet. (Just a thought in case similar should happen again). But it’s good news the food was all eaten.

Hopefully Mum will be back soon with hoglet in tow. If you are going to offer supplementary food in the future I would stick to just the cat food and water.

Keep us posted with any news. Good luck.
