We are currently feeding between 1 and 3 hedgehogs (we think – it is sometimes difficult to differentiate using a wireless camera).
They are eating well, dried kitten food, but they have a habit of defecating around where they eat.
This makes the whole block paving (under cover) area where they feed continually messy.
How does everyone keep the area clean?
Have it out in the open so the rain keeps it tidy?
Regular wash downs with hose and brush?

They (some?) also leave a trail up the side of the house under the car port but that is much more spread out.

Anything exposed to the elements washes away quite quickly.

    Hi LittleGreyCat

    Sorry no-one has replied sooner.

Yes hedgehog do tend to poo around feeding areas, especially if there are multiple hogs present. It’s best to keep feeding areas as clean as possible to avoid infection, so ideally clean the area daily. Hogs would not normally gather in the numbers they sometimes do at feeding stations which means they are more likely to exchange any infections in those areas than they would in a more natural situation.

If the poos are quite dry you can probably brush them up daily and wash less often, but if they are not so dry, hose and brush daily would be ideal. Rain alone is not likely to be sufficient – as well as there being less control on where poos end up!

Luckily the hogs here tend to be quite well behaved in that respect, although they do tend to turn up singly most of the time at the moment. You might find it helps a bit to spread the food out, i.e. if you use bowls, put them further apart.

Good luck. I hope the hogs there stay well throughout the Winter.
