Activity in and out of hedgehog house all night
-
I placed my trail cam outside the hedgehog house last night to see if the hog is still using it. Over the course of the night my camera caught our hog coming and going every couple of hours either to nip inside the house or just pop it’s head in. It stayed inside for 30 mins just after midnight then just popped it’s head inside the other times. It didn’t seem to be taking anything inside or bringing anything out.
Is this usual behaviour?
I expected that they would be out foraging for food all night and travelling further afield. I figured maybe it could be different hogs but looking on the camera it has a visible tic on the side of it’s face so appeared to be the same one each time.
This hog has been awake as far as I know from early Feb and has been using the hedgehog house since then. I was hoping to give it a clean out but as it’s still being used I’m going to leave it alone.
Just wondered if anyone has come across this type of behaviour before?
Hi Kerry
They sometimes do that either if there is another hog in the hog house or one has just been there.
Cameras aren’t totally reliable at telling everything that is happening. There is a time gap between clips and hogs freqeuntly seem to move around during those times – leading to suspicions of invisibility cloaks and the like!
