An evening with Hedgehog Street

This Hedgehog Awareness Week you’re invited to join us for an online hedgehog celebration to entertain, educate and inspire. We’ve put together an exciting evening of talks covering topics from research and conservation, through to community action and engagement.
The FREE event will be hosted on Tuesday 3rd May 2022, from 7pm-9pm BST. You can register via the link below and we’ll send you joining instructions via email prior to the event.

We’ll be joined by…
Hugh Warwick, aka ‘Hedgehog Hugh’
Hedgehog Hugh is an ecologist, author, BHPS spokesperson and all-round hedgehog enthusiast. His books include A Prickly Affair, Linescapes and most recently The Hedgehog Book. Hugh has been a passionate advocate for hedgehogs for many years and joins us to share his experiences of a life with hedgehogs, as well as his ongoing campaign work.
Joel Ashton, Wildlife Gardener
Joel has been a landscape designer and installer for 17 years, focussing on wildlife habitats. His social media and outreach work has helped to popularise wildlife-friendly gardens, particularly via his YouTube channel ‘Wild Your Garden with Joel Ashton‘, debut book ‘Wild Your Garden‘ and TV appearances including Gardener’s World and Springwatch. Joel will be sharing his top garden tips for hedgehogs and creating a haven for all manner of wildlife, via video.
Jo Wilkinson, Hedgehog Friendly Campus
Hedgehog Friendly Campus is a BHPS-funded award programme, offering free support to help universities and colleges make impactful changes for hedgehogs. Teams work towards bronze, silver and gold hedgehog-friendly certification. Jo will join us to share updates on the project, which has recently expanded to include primary schools.
Lauren Moore, Hedgehog researcher
Lauren will be sharing new insights from her PTES-funded PhD at Nottingham Trent University. Roads are a major threat to hedgehogs, and Lauren’s research is working to uncover the impacts of roads on hedgehog populations, as well as potential solutions.
Dave Murcott, Hedgehog Champion
Dave is a dedicated Hedgehog Champion and co-founder of the Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group (WFEG). The group are working to make their Staffordshire community more environmentally friendly. The group’s wildlife projects include working with bats, bumblebees, butterflies and creating a hedgehog superhighway. Dave will be joining us to share his top tips for engaging with neighbours and inspiring community action.
Grace Johnson, Hedgehog Officer
Grace will be giving an update on the joint Hedgehog Street campaign, including the recent State of Britain’s Hedgehogs report and plans for the coming year.
