Our first hedgehog
-
A few days ago oor dog was barking on the patio, on investigation I found a hedgehog curled up under a fucia, picked it up with towel and put it further up the garden on the grass. We decided the next day to get a hedgehog house and we also got some food and straw, it all arrived the next day and I set it up. Something ate the food the first night and it looked like the straw had been arranged so as we couldn’t be sure what was using the home I set up a wildlife camera and on the first night of the camera being used we got footage of a hedgehog going in to the house. We’re really excited.
Hi Petehog28
Great news about the hedgehog! It sounds as if you are pretty well organised already and lucky that the food has had the hog seal of approval so soon.
You might be interested in this link https://www.hedgehogstreet.org/pets-and-hedgehogs/ in case your dog starts to show too much interest in the hogs. If you ever see a hog in a dogs mouth it may need help from a hog carer – they can easily break the skin leading to infection – and puncture wounds can be difficult to see. Better to be safe than sorry I always think, especially with hedgehog welfare. But, hopefully your dog will be ok with them.
Good luck with the hogs and happy hog watching!
