Hello, could someone let me know if I’m doing the thing please? Or should do more.
I have 2 successful hedgehog houses that sees many a visitor and a feeding station which has nightly visitors.
I rescued a small hedgehog from the road and popped it into my hog hospital which is a hedgehog house with extension for food and water.
Little hog has eaten a little and drank.
No ticks and on the whole looks healthy and walks about fine.
I need it to put on weight so i can release about september.
It didnt eat the hedgehog tinned food but ate the spikes semi moist which it needs to get used to as that is what is placed in the feed station with 3 bowls nightly.
I thought of buying kitten milk as a booster as someone who cares for many baby hogs regularly uses (not human milk) but think its past milking stage anyway.
Do i need to be patient and let it settle and see if it eats more?
All being well and once it has put on weight i will move into one of my hog hotel houses then release it.

Update – little hog weighed 200g yesterday (so a way to go before it is 500/600g) and ate and drank a lot overnight and active as has night cam outside rehab house which sees through feed area.
Was going to weigh again this morning but when i gently moved away the straw i was greeted by 2 annoyed grunts so left it in peace but was so happy to hear the annoyed grunts, ill attempt to weigh much later 🦔

    Hi

You need to weigh it regularly as despite it seeming to eat it can go downhill very rapidly.
If it doesn’t eat or continue putting on weight get help from a carer immediately – don’t even wait a day
Internal parasites in hogs get worse very quickly with stress of captivity so be careful
You are right it’s too old for milk
    Hope that helps

    Thanks Stef,
Yes, i have dedicated hedgehog scales and a chart detailing daily weight which is going well. Still, i will contact a ‘pro’ carer incase the little hog runs into an issue or a concern of mine. Ive released several rehab hogs into my garden as a safe starting point for any little hog, always nice that they stay in my garden with 2 hog hotels and stocked feed station before they find their way to the hog highways but many find their way back for a supper treat.
