You did absolutely the right thing they would have died. Well done
Mum may have died or abandoned them as winter is approaching and she needs to put on hibernation fat

BHPS guidance for Captive hedgehogs being released at this time of year is that they should weigh over 600gms and should only be released when night time temps are over 5deg for the next few days. I would advise making sure food is available after they are released as these wouldn’t have had time with mum to learn
