Hi Superherb

My personal preference is wooden hog houses, partly for the reasons you gave and partly because it’s easier to clean out wooden hog houses – with boiling water to kill parasite eggs. I suspect a good wooden one, whilst probably being more expensive, would last longer probably making them a better deal in the long run. I’m also not keen on the thought of hogs, i.e., hibernating in a plastic covered home because of potential condensation inside.

But I think the potential of getting caught in it can depend a bit on how well a twig type one is constructed – the not so well made/possibly cheaper ones are more likely to have things which the hogs could get caught in. So I would give the twiggy hog house a good check over to make sure there is nothing hazardous for the hogs before you use it.

It’s good to hear you have another hog house already tenanted!
