Hi Hazel G
If they are hoglets it doesn’t seem uncommon. But whether when it comes to hibernation they would actually share a nest is another matter. But it is possible two nests could be built in one hog box, if it is large enough.
Having said that, hogs sharing boxes does seem to have become more common, whether from lack of other suitable sites, or as a result of hogs having been in care and sharing acommodation there – and so continuing to do so once released.
But it’s unlikely it would be a male and female. Male and female hogs don’t generally pair up like that. i.e. they do not remain loyal to one mate. Given the chance they are solitary animals – the exceptions would be for mating which during a female hog’s life can be with multiple males and a female with her young.
