Hi Karenlouise40

It isn’t normal for a hog to be out during the day. If it is small it could be a hoglet. The best thing to do is contact your local hedgehog carer and explain the situation to them and take their advice. They will know what precautions need to be taken in case it’s a nursing mother.

You can get contact details of your nearest carer by ringing BHPS on 01584 890801 Hedgehogs, being wild animals, will not let on that they are unwell if they can help it, so that a hog that is ill can look o.k. until it is very unwell. So make those phone calls preferably sooner rather than later, so that you can be ready, in case the hedgehog makes an appearance in the day again.

Just one other thing. It’s a good idea to leave water available for the hogs all day every day, in case a really thirsty hog might be desperate for a drink any time.

Good luck.
