Hi Jammiedodger

You really need to get the hog checked out. It might need treating. There is a possibility that it’s already had treatment, but it won’t hurt to check. But there are some hogs who have had amputations living in the wild, so it won’t necessarily mean bad news for the hog – depends on the nature of the original injury.

If you’re going to catch him, I would have a container (high sided box or pet carrier) ready to put him in. I usually line the bottom with newspaper (they tend to spill water) and then either a small towel he can burrow under or some torn up strips of newspaper, for burrowing under. Don’t forget to provide food and water.

You can get contact details of your nearest carer from BHPS on 01584 890801
