So pleased this morning to hear that Hedgehogs have now been put on the Red list… Vulnerable to extinction… Not just endangered now. I hope this will help our little friends, I hope it means we can protect their environments and lastly, I hope we can get road signs put up easier.! Probably still means a fight to get them though. Best wishes to you all.

    Hi Annker

Yes, here is a link from BHPS about it. https://www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk/british-hedgehog-now-officially-classified-as-vulnerable-to-extinction/

However I believe that ‘endangered’ is actually a higher category than vulnerable to extinction. Nonetheless, hopefully it will be of some help to the hogs that they now have the official classification of vulnerable to extinction. Hopefully BHPS will be successful in their attempts to get hedgehogs’ legal protection increased.

Hi Nic, thanks for your input. Let’s hope it really does help. Thanks for the link. After loosing 2 hogs that I know of this year, we have one young hog visiting that’s been born this year. Its been a disappointing year as we had 5 for two years, last year 7 and I’m not sure how many we have now. People thought it would be a good year as it was quiet with lock down. However, as soon as people started moving around again, the poor hogs were taken by surprise and traffic appeared that some young ones weren’t prepared for it. We continue to feed and water them and just hope for the best. Best wishes.
