Dear All. I’ve had three hedgehogs in my garden recently for a few months. I fed them, bought them a hedgehog house, so they were there every night. They’re now gone, maybe went hibernating. However, a few days ago just as the hedgehogs stopped coming, I’ve noticed a hole dug up under my decking. It’s a deep hole (don’t know where it ends) maybe as wide as my arm. Do you think it could be the hedgehogs sleeping there? I mean would they dig a hole? I at first thought it could be a rat, put the camera near the hole and nothing comes in or out. Could the hedgehogs dig it up and go hibernating there?

    Hi YuliaBradley

I have never known a hog dig a hole such as you describe. It does sound more like a rat, or alternatively, do you have rabbits around? Or a small dog? Although hogs will sometimes dig small holes to get under fences, but that doesn’t sound like what you described. Is there a hollow space under the decking and could something be just digging a hole to acccess that area?
