Living life on the edge

6th January 2020

Hedgehogs are an edge-loving species. This means they will often roam along garden fences or close to the undergrowth on the sides of gardens in order to move about. So how can you help?

  • Plant native shrubs and low lying plants that provide a good amount of shelter along the edges of your garden.
  • Try and make it as continuous as possible so it’s not gappy – this way hedgehogs will have constant cover around your garden.
  • Installing 13x13cm hedgehog highways between gardens will mean hedgehogs can travel as far as they need in search of food, shelter and mates.
  • Why not plant some shrubs in your garden linking one highway to another?
