Yes, they can be a bit perverse. They sometimes decide to spend the day in one of my feed boxes, here, which similar to yours is in the sun part of the day. Of course it doesn’t matter, when they’re meant to only be in there at night! Bare boards, so not very inviting, but that doesn’t seem to put them off, especially in the Summer. But I have a small table which I can quite easily stretegically place, if I find one is there – they have only ever stayed a day or two in that sort of situation.
Maybe you could think about planting a few small bushes in your front garden to make it more hog friendly?
